Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi, established in 1916, is one of India’s premier government medical colleges, originally founded as an exclusive institution for women. The college is affiliated with the University of Delhi, recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), and funded by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
With an intake of 200 MBBS students annually, LHMC has played a pioneering role in medical education and healthcare. It operates through two major teaching hospitals – Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital (877 beds) and Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital (350 beds) – providing high-quality tertiary care to thousands of patients daily.
The Department of Microbiology at LHMC is internationally acclaimed as a WHO Collaborating Centre for streptococcal diseases and has been a leader in AIDS surveillance. The institution is also credited with establishing India’s first ART Centre for children
